This is something that so many artists need to use as a huge deal breaker. Trust me, someone whose supposed to SUPPORT you is supposed to help inspire you, not fill you with dread to pick up your favorite artistic medium. It WILL kill your creative spark and you'll be miserable.

There is a clear difference between constructive critique ("Hey, maybe use less yellow next time" for example) and an all out assault on your work just about every time you create a piece ("OMG this looks so folksy, your art never advances!" just to give an example).
